Taken from the island of Koh Chang in the Gulf of Thailand, where my Canadian and I just spent an AMAZING week.
After three months of working with 3 and 4 year olds all day in Hanoi, my Canadian needed a break. We decided to get out of the city, away from the smog, traffic and thunderstorms. We’d heard a friend rave about an Eco-lodge that we’d actually stumbled across online and decided to try it out. I’m so glad we did. The 5 hour bus ride to Cat Lem, a small town Northwest of the city, was hellish, with the ticket taker forcing far too many people into the tiny spaces. When we got to Cat Lem, we hopped on a couple xe oms (mototaxis) and almost immediately felt refreshed from the gorgeous air and the wonderful landscapes.
The lodge itself is located in a commune supporting the Dao people, a local ethnic minority. It is comprised of a traditional stilt house and separate “rammed earth” rooms made of dried bamboo and red earth. The location was breathtaking, right on one of Vietnam’s biggest lakes. You felt absolutely isolated in the best way. Due to it’s proximity to Hanoi, most of the guests (with the exception of one couple) were Hanoi ex-pats like us.
It was the perfect place to get out of the city for two days and I will recommend it to anyone living in Hanoi. Look out for a bunch of pictures to come!
Sometimes my Canadian brings me flowers for no reason at all…he’s the best
day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding
“But For Now” by Jamie Cullum.
I would love my first dance with my husband to be to this song. Please ignore the cheesy video.
day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate
The Luckiest by Ben Folds
I wouldn’t say I HATE it…but I can’t listen to it anymore for various reasons.
day 11 - a song from your favorite band
A Case of You by Joni Mitchell
To say that I have a favourite band or singer would be negligible but I will always and forever be a Joni Mitchell fan and this song will always be important to me for various reasons. It also includes some of my favourite lyrics:
I remember that time you told me you said
“Love is touching souls”
Surely you touched mine
‘Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere
Femme Like U by K. Maro
The summer of 2004 brought some positively brilliant music into my life (ie Ben Folds) but it also brought a bunch of ridiculous French pop. This song will always remind me of Amboise and the people I still consider my best friends 7 years later.
day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone
Wait by Alexi Murdoch
Self explanatory…
